Annual review

February 26th, 2010 -- Posted in Family, Work | No Comments »

Every year my husband gets a review from his job. Well yesterday (even though he’s on vacation) he went into town to have his review done. He did very well. Not bad considering a lot of the things he worked on this year (which included security cameras), he had never worked on before. Well with a good review, comes a great bonus. So sometime in March we can expect to have a little extra money in our bank account. Way to go honey!

Looking older

February 15th, 2010 -- Posted in Work | No Comments »

Last week my restaurant was hit with a mystery shop. And the waitress that was mystery shopped was me. All in all, I did pretty good. But there was one thing I wasn’t pleased about. When they guessed my approximate age, they put down that I am in my late 40’s. Well, I’m not!!! This did not impress me one little bit. I didn’t think I looked that old, but if people think I’m that old then I’m really going to have to invest in some antiaging products. I am only 41 so to me that is not in my late 40’s. Hopefully after I make a few changes, the next time I get mystery shopped these people will guess my age correctly.

Super busy weekend

February 8th, 2010 -- Posted in Work | No Comments »

If we are still in a recession, I can’t see it. This past weekend at my work, it was so… busy. Both Saturday and Sunday were so busy that I was late getting out of work both days. Not only did I have a lot of customers to wait on, but the hand dryers in the bathrooms broke as well, so I spent quite a bit of time on the telephone trying to get someone in to look at them as well. Now normally I don’t mind when it’s super busy as work (it makes the time go by faster), but when your the only waitress on, life can get a little rough. But… the good news is, next weekend is my last weekend at work, so after that I won’t be quite so busy any more.

I took a night off

January 20th, 2010 -- Posted in Health, Work | No Comments »

Normally I work every Tuesday night. But this week I offered my shift to another girl who didn’t have a lot of hours this week and took the night off. It was a good thing that I did this actually. Yesterday I ended up with the worst headache that I’ve had in a long time and I really don’t think I would have been able to work anyway. But after a great night’s sleep, I’m back to 100% today. I have to go back to work tomorrow, but I think after another good night’s sleep tonight I will be ready for that shift. But it was still nice to take the night off even if I wasn’t feeling the best.

Monday morning blues

January 18th, 2010 -- Posted in Work | No Comments »

God I hate Mondays! I work every weekend so nothing around here gets done. And…. I mean nothing! That’s means it’s all left to me to do every Monday morning. Well it’s Monday again, so you all know what that means. That means tons and tons of work for me to do. I have loads of dishes, loads of laundry and I need to vacuum and dust the living room. By the looks of my cleaning list, I’m not even going to get a start on the article about fda approved diet pills that I need to have ready for a client by Wednesday.

Have I mentioned lately that I hate Mondays?!

Transcription testing

January 18th, 2010 -- Posted in Work | No Comments »

So many of you may not be aware of this, but part of the way that I earn a little bit of income each month is by doing some online transcribing for companies. Most months I do pretty good with this, but I am constantly looking for new companies to test with and possibly work with. Last month I did a test for a company about natural colon cleansing but I haven’t heard a word back from them. This has me extremely frustrated. If I didn’t get the job, then that’s fine. But I would at least like to know. I guess I’m going to have to give up on this particular company and just start applying at other ones. So I guess in this case, no news, is not good news.

Annoying job

January 14th, 2010 -- Posted in Family, Work | No Comments »

Part of my husband’s job is that he has to be on call 24/7. That means when a machine breaks down day or night, he has to go. Well this happened to him last night. After putting in a ten hour day at his job, he just got home, had his supper and got a phone call. So out the door he went. By the time he got home it was after midnight and he was back up at 6:00 am this morning to do it all over again. I don’t know how he does it. If it were me, I would need to invest in some serious under eye wrinkle cream just to keep up appearances. He’s not impressed these days with the job and neither am I. I really do wish he would look for something else.

Christmas break

December 22nd, 2009 -- Posted in Work | No Comments »

I am so excited! I just found out that I’m able to get Christmas even and Boxing day off from my outside job. Normally I work those two days, but my boss wanted to be nice to me and give me some time off to spend with my family. Who knows, maybe I’ll even have some time to look up low cost health insurance while I’m on my little break. I do have to work New Year’s Eve and New Year’s day, but I really don’t care about that. Not only can I make some pretty good tips on those days, but we normally don’t do anything much anyway so it’s not like I’m taking anything away from my family time. Oh man, I am so happy right now!

Back to school

August 18th, 2009 -- Posted in School, Work | No Comments »

Well it looks like I just might be headed back to school this fall. I have an opportunity to advance at my present place of employment, but to do this I really need to upgrade my insurance marketing knowledge. Because I do have a marketing diploma, I really don’t need to take the entire course, I just need to do a little upgrading. If I do this, I have a chance at a better job making a lot more money. So over the next few days I will be checking out course materials and prices and then make my final decision from there.

Vacation time

July 27th, 2009 -- Posted in Family, Work | No Comments »

My husband has one more week of holidays left and I think I’ve convinced him to ask for next week off. The reason why I would like for him to have next week off is because my oldest son will be home for a visit and it also the week that both the younger kids will celebrate their birthdays. He had planned on going into work today to see if anyone else has booked that week off. If they haven’t, then he will ask his boss for the week off. Fingers crossed folks that we are not too late.
