Very expensive shopping trip

August 13th, 2008 -- Posted in Kids, School | 1 Comment »

Well last night we went out and purchased all the kid’s back to school clothing. This was a very expensive shopping trip for us. Both kids needed two pairs of sneakers, some t shirts, some sweat shirts, pants and socks and underwear. It’s not so bad when your purchasing for one, but double your purchases for two and this can put a person in the poor house. I don’t know how some parents do it when they have to send four or five kids back to school. I know for us it takes a little dent out of the budget each year so I can just imagine what it’s like for these parents. But at least that part is all done and now all we have to concentrate on is purchasing the rest of their supplies.

Grade 2 open house

June 17th, 2008 -- Posted in Kids, School | No Comments »

This afternoon is my son’s grade 2 open house.  It only runs from 1:00 pm to 1:30 pm so that isn’t too bad.  My son has already asked me if his father was going to attend.  He knew I would be there.  I always am.  When I told him that I didn’t think his father would make it he was pretty disappointed (he has to work).  But he’s in for a major surprise.  His father called this morning to find out what time this thing will start at and he’s going to take his dinner break at that time so he can come to the open house.  Daniel will be very surprised and happy when he sees his father walk through the door.  When possible my husband sneaks away to go to the kids activities at school and once again he has come through for his son.  I can’t wait to see the look on Daniel’s face this afternoon.

Final week

June 14th, 2008 -- Posted in Kids, School | No Comments »

Were on the final stretch.  This is the final week for the kids for school.  The good thing is is that I haven’t received a phone call from the kids school to say they aren’t going to pass.  No phone call means that both kids passed their grade level again this year.  Even though it’s their last week, it’s going to be a busy one.  Kara has her violin performance on Tuesday night and then she will be all finished for the year for this and on Tuesday Daniel has his grade 2 open house.  They both only have half a day on Friday and then the summer vacation will begin.  They are both pretty excited about this and can’t wait for their extended break.  I am also looking forward to this time as well.  Hopefully their won’t be as much fighting this summer as in past summers and we will all have a great time.

News letter from school

April 30th, 2008 -- Posted in Kids, School | No Comments »

Unbelievable.  I can’t believe what our school district is up to now.  I got a news letter sent home today concerning the French program at the school.  They have decided to make a few changes and let me tell you, I’m not really pleased with these changes.  Starting next year all the grade 5’s will have to take half a year French.  Then the second half of the year everything will be taught in English.  There will be no French program for Grades 1-4 (that means my son will have no French instruction for two years, but have half a year in Grade 5).  I think that these changes are too much all at once.  But the school has decided to adopt this new strategy so I guess we will just have to wait and see what next year brings.  All I can say is I don’t like it and I wish they had of consulted the  parents of these changes before deciding to implement them.

Money, money, money

March 27th, 2008 -- Posted in Kids, School | No Comments »

If your a parent with kids that are in school, then your totally going to understand where this rant is coming from.  Man oh man it costs a lot to put kids through school.  At the first of the year you have to pay student fees and agenda fees.  You think at this time that all your fees are covered for the year right?  Wrong!  This week alone it has cost us a fortune.  There were some book orders that came home at the first of the week.  Then lunch orders and of course popcorn orders.  Plus the regular lunches for the current week.

Of course we don’t have to purchase all these little “extras” for the kids, but what kid wants to go to school and not be included in on the extras.  I don’t think it would make them feel very good if all the “other” kids were getting all this and not them.  So, my question to you all is when and where does it stop?

My son is a very happy boy today

February 27th, 2008 -- Posted in Kids, School | 1 Comment »

My son is a very happy boy today.  Today we have another storm day from school, so he gets to stay home today and play all day.  Yesterday when he got up for school, he came out of his room sniffing.  He then informed me that he had the “snuffles”.  When I didn’t bite at this comment, he then asked me to check his head to see if he had a fever.  He had a small one, but I told him he was good to go.  He kind of grinned at this comment and then said, “darn it, I wanted to stay home to play PlayStation”.  I kind of knew what this was all about, and that’s why I wouldn’t let him stay home.

So needless to say he was jumping for joy when he heard that all schools were cancelled.  He didn’t have to play the sick card.  So all morning he has been playing his game with a huge grin on his face.  I guess you can say that he’s OK with the fact that he didn’t get to stay home yesterday, as today he got his wish.

Many concerts coming up

February 11th, 2008 -- Posted in Entertainment, Kids, Music, School | No Comments »

I’m starting to think that it’s probably a good idea that I don’t have a job outside of the home anymore.  My daughter is keeping me quite busy with all her violin activities and performances.  Before the end of the year in June, she has seven different concerts and competitions that she will partake in and I have to be available to drive her to all events.

I’m not really complaining as I am quite happy to see her enjoying herself and getting right into everything that has to do with violin.  Before Christmas I was getting a little worried that she wasn’t enjoying herself and that she wanted to give up.  But it seems like all these announcements about different events has given her a second look at all this.  So, as long as she is willing to learn and play, I am willing to carry her around.

Last skate for the year

January 24th, 2008 -- Posted in Entertainment, Kids, School | No Comments »

In my children’s school each class goes on a skate with their class four times a year.  That for me this year meant that I needed to stand in a cold rink first thing in the morning this year eight times.  Well I’m happy to report that yesterday was the last skate of the season.  That’s right, that means that I don’t have to go and stand in a cold rink any more this year if I don’t want to.

Both kids had a blast going to the skating rinks with their classes and their progress that they made on the ice was quite amazing.  You could see their confidence level build up after each and every skate.  Matter of fact, my daughter did a solo on the ice yesterday.  That’s how confident she has become.

Even though the skating season for the school is now over, we will be taking the kids to the outdoor rink from time to time over the next couple of months.  But they won’t be going with their classes any more this year.  This fact doesn’t really bother them because as long as they get to skating again, they really don’t care who it’s with.
