Violin concert

December 15th, 2008 -- Posted in Kids, Music | No Comments »

Last week my daughter was supposed to perform in a huge violin Christmas concert. But due to crappy weather the concert got canceled. Well they rescheduled it for tomorrow night. Although the concert doesn’t start until 7:00 pm, she needs to be there at 6:00 pm. Then the concert runs from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. This is her first big concert so she is quite excited about it. So I have asked my husband to drop us off at 6:00 pm. Then him and my youngest son will come home (it’s too long of a performance for my little guy) and then when the concert is over we will catch a ride home with her grandfather.

The excitement is starting to build for her and tomorrow night she will get to perform in front of her largest crowd ever. Please keep your fingers crossed for her that it doesn’t storm. Otherwise, the entire concert will be canceled with no other date available.

Still practicing

July 17th, 2008 -- Posted in Kids, Music | 2 Comments »

Although school is over and done with for the summer, my daughter still continues to practice her violin faithfully.  I am actually quite surprised with this as when she was in school I had to fight with her constantly to do her daily practicing.  I guess it makes a difference when you “don’t have to” practice.  I’m not complaining by any means.  As the more practicing she does over the summer, the less skills she will have lost when she goes back.  But I’m also not getting my hopes up that this means that she will continue to practice faithfully when she goes back to school with no complaints.  Because then it won’t be fun and voluntary.  So I’ll just enjoy not fighting with her this summer and deal with “school practicing” when the time comes.

Many concerts coming up

February 11th, 2008 -- Posted in Entertainment, Kids, Music, School | 2 Comments »

I’m starting to think that it’s probably a good idea that I don’t have a job outside of the home anymore.  My daughter is keeping me quite busy with all her violin activities and performances.  Before the end of the year in June, she has seven different concerts and competitions that she will partake in and I have to be available to drive her to all events.

I’m not really complaining as I am quite happy to see her enjoying herself and getting right into everything that has to do with violin.  Before Christmas I was getting a little worried that she wasn’t enjoying herself and that she wanted to give up.  But it seems like all these announcements about different events has given her a second look at all this.  So, as long as she is willing to learn and play, I am willing to carry her around.
