He’s so competitive

August 7th, 2008 -- Posted in Entertainment, Family | 1 Comment »

My youngest son is so funny.  He just turned 8, but looks to be around the age of 6.  But what he lacks in size he more than makes up for in imagination, energy and yes, even competitiveness.  The other night my brother in law took the kids to the movies.  At this particular movie theater there is an arcade as well.  Well my husband and I were bored so we decided to surprise the kids and show up at the movies as well.  When my son seen his father he challenged him to a game of air hockey.  Well I never laughed so hard as I did that night.  Some of the things that were coming out of his mouth were extremely priceless.

First of all he told his father to “get his game on”.  Then after he scored a couple of times on his father he then started shouting “Your going down old man”.  It’s a good thing his father has a really good sense of humor or this game could have turned ugly.

And who won you asked??  My son of course!

Still can’t cook

July 19th, 2008 -- Posted in Family | 5 Comments »

One of the things that I planned to accomplish when I quit my job well over a year ago was I had planned to learn how to cook. Although I’m am a 40 year old mother and wife, when it comes to skills of the kitchen I am completely hopeless. So I purchased a few cook books with some really easy recipes in there and made my plans to teach myself. Well as you can see by the title of this post, that didn’t happen. I really don’t have the interest in learning and I have discovered that if the interest isn’t there then any attempts are futile. Oh well, the family won’t starve as my husband knows how to cook. So I’ll just keep doing what I know how to do and leave the fancy cooking stuff to him.

A wedding in October

July 14th, 2008 -- Posted in Family | 1 Comment »

Most of you may not know this, but my mother-in-law passed away from stomach cancer in September of last year.  My husband’s parents had been together for over 48 years and it had been a devastating loss for him.  It took him a while to come out of his depression and to start moving on.  But man…when he did he, he did this fast.

Last week he informed the family that he is getting married to a woman that he has only known for two months.  This wedding is planned for October.  As of this point, no one in the family has met her so the reaction to his news was not something good.  It’s been a week now since he has announced this news, and the family has calmed down now.

The man will be 70 next year, so there is really nothing the family can do.  He has his mind made up so we all have to make the best of it.  But..I am still a little skeptical about this union and I probably will be for some time to come.  If the wedding does go through, we will be attending (he asked my husband to be the best man), but I don’t know about the rest of the family.  Hopefully by then they will have calmed down and have accepted the fact that their father is a grown man and is going to make his own decisions.

Weekend plans

July 11th, 2008 -- Posted in Entertainment, Family | No Comments »

So the weekend is finally here and my husband has the entire weekend off.  So that means a camping trip for us.  He arrived home too late this evening to leave tonight but first thing in the morning we will pack up the trailer and head out to the campsite.  The kids are quite excited and already have their bags packed.  Keep your fingers crossed for us that the weather stays sunny and warm like it’s suppose to.  On this camping trip we will be taking the camera so the first of next week I’ll have some pictures for you all.

Have a great weekend everyone and I’ll talk to you all again on Monday.

The fun is just beginning

July 9th, 2008 -- Posted in Family | No Comments »

Lately the weather here has been super nice and sunny. It’s been so nice that the kids and I have spent countless hours outside every day. We usually go out for a couple of hours in the afternoon and then after supper go out for another more hour or so. Normally when my husband gets home from work he will come out and join us as well.

As you can see by these photos, yesterday the kids and my husband were having a wonderful time outside playing. The kids especially enjoyed themselves and I’m sure my husband did too. So far it’s been a pretty good summer with a lot of playing getting done and I’m sure there will be more of this type of activity in the upcoming weeks.

He has a girlfriend

June 29th, 2008 -- Posted in Family, Life | 1 Comment »

My father in law announced today that he has a girlfriend.  I find this quite amusing myself as he is 69 and she is 66 and they are both carrying on like little teenagers.  Every time he talks about her, he always refers to her as “my girlfriend” and not by her name.  He seems to be really happy with this turn of events, but my husband’s sister definitely are not!!  They are barely speaking to their father which I find to be an awful shame.

Nine months ago his wife passed away (their mother) and they don’t think he gave “them” enough time to morn.  But for the past nine months he has been highly depressed and I’m just happy to see him so happy these days.  My husband hasn’t said too much about the big news, but has stated that it’s his father’s life and he can do what he wants.  He only wants him to be happy and this woman seems to be doing the trick.  I’m sure the sisters will calm down eventually, I just hope it’s sooner rather than later.

I hate cleaning

June 26th, 2008 -- Posted in Family, Home | No Comments »

In my next life time I’m coming back as a very rich person. That way I can afford to hire a made to clean my toilets. I’m not kidding! I hate cleaning and the worst room in the house has got to be the bathroom. I don’t understand why my family feels the need to leave it disgusting after each and every visit. The only reason I can think of is because they enjoy watching me clean. So that is why in my next life time I plan on coming back rich. But with my luck I’ll come back as the maid.

Visiting the US

June 24th, 2008 -- Posted in Entertainment, Family | 1 Comment »

It’s funny how certain things in our lives now will trigger very fond memories of days gone by. With the arrival of my cousin and her family due any day now, I started thinking back to summers of long ago. One summer in particular stands out in my mind quite vividly. That would have been the year that I travelled from Canada to the US to go visit my cousin in San Francisco. We had so much fun during the two weeks that I was visiting. We packed in as much fun as we could during those two weeks, and the only other way we could have done as much would have been if we had of had a copy of things to do in San Francisco. But being the ripe old age of 17, we made our own fun.

If I were to go to San Francisco again, the very first thing I would do would be to sign up for a tour of San Francisco with Trusted Tours & Attractions. They offer so many different types of tours, that there is always something for everyone. You can have the opportunity to visit Madame Tussauds, take boat rides, and eat at the fanciest restaurants. There is so much to do in San Francisco that a person would really need to look at some online travel guides to make sure they get the very most out of their vacation.

So if your planning a trip this summer and would like to make it as memorable as the one I had way back in the 80’s, then why not check out the Trusted Tours and Attractions website. As an added bonus, if you sign up for their newsletter, you have a chance of winning a handheld GPS system. What are you waiting for?? Your next vacation could be right around the corner.

Out with the old—In with the new

June 19th, 2008 -- Posted in Entertainment, Family | 1 Comment »

Monday night my husband and my youngest son went down to our local RV dealer and purchased a brand new camper trailer. The camper we currently have and use is still fine for camping, it’s just that it’s pretty old and doesn’t have a whole lot of options with it. The one we just purchased is completely optioned up and I know we will enjoy camping in it so much more than the old one.

This is our purchase and I couldn’t be happier. It’s smaller than the old one but it has more room in it as the beds and the table are a bit smaller. So it’s easier to get around in it then the old one. And because it’s smaller it’s easier to transport so going on longer trips won’t be a problem.

I’m really hoping that the weatherman co-operates with us this weekend so we get a chance to break her in. And of course I’ll always come back in to post and let you know how our first experience with the new camper worked out.

Sharing a laptop

June 18th, 2008 -- Posted in Family, Life | No Comments »

Two out of the three of our computers are going into the shop next week for a laptop memory upgrade. It’s bad enough that one of the computers needs it, but we have two. Thankfully mine is fine so I don’t need to take mine in as well. The kids have my old one and I have known for a while now that it needed to be upgraded, but have been putting it off. But now since my husband has decided that his needs an upgrade as well I guess the time is right to send them both in. I hope this upgrade doesn’t take too long, or I can see three people bugging me to use mine. I don’t share and I don’t play nicely. Just kidding. But I’m keeping my fingers crossed so I don’t have to share.
