Still practicing

Although school is over and done with for the summer, my daughter still continues to practice her violin faithfully.  I am actually quite surprised with this as when she was in school I had to fight with her constantly to do her daily practicing.  I guess it makes a difference when you “don’t have to” practice.  I’m not complaining by any means.  As the more practicing she does over the summer, the less skills she will have lost when she goes back.  But I’m also not getting my hopes up that this means that she will continue to practice faithfully when she goes back to school with no complaints.  Because then it won’t be fun and voluntary.  So I’ll just enjoy not fighting with her this summer and deal with “school practicing” when the time comes.

I am so very impressed with the fact that your children are so involved in many positive extracurricular activities. You and your husband are doing a great job of keeping them well rounded. Good job Kim!!

My recollection of practicing my violin when I was in fifth grade was that every member of my family kept telling me to stop! You are a wonderful mother to encourage your child to practice an instrument that simply doesn’t sound very musical in the hands of most beginners.
